offside position

offside position
offside position
Position in which a player is nearer to the opposing team's goal line than both the ball and the second last opposing player at the moment when the ball is played by another player of his own team.
An offside position is only considered as an offence when the player in the offside position is involved in active play at the moment when the ball touches or is being played by one of his team, in which case the referee awards the opposing team an indirect free kick.
To be in an offside position.
